Hologram of Tupac at Coachella 2012

Sunday April 25, at the much anticipated Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2012 in  Indio, California a 3D life- size projection of Tupac joined Dr Dre and Snoop Dog on stage, stunning the over 75,000 fans in attendance who cheered to a performance of the single Hail Mary.

Here is the video of the Dre/Snoop/Tupac performance, ignore the explicit language at the begining:

My fascination is with the technology.  After watching the video, I am like, how did they do that?  I have seen the technology on display on CNN during coverage of the 2008 presidential elections without making much of it.  Here take a look:

In producing the Tupac hologram, Computer Generated Imagery (CGI), previously recorded live footage of his 1996 Death Row concert and a nineteenth century magic trick was used by James Cameron's Visual Effects Company, with very impressive results.

Apparently Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother, was "thrilled" with the hologram.  She watched the show live on the Internet. Share this post if you like technology!!
